Each spring, Milton Travel Soccer players entering 3rd-8th grade for the fall season, participate in player evaluations. These evaluations are used to place players on appropriate level teams with players of similar skill and ability. The teams will compete in the BAYS league at similar levels of competition.
Evaluations are conducted through three approaches.
- Coach Evaluations: Each player is evaluated by their travel team coach at the end of each season.
- In-Game Evaluations (PILOT PROGRAM IN 2023): Second graders who will be joining the travel program in the fall as third graders will be evaluated in the final 2 or 3 regular weeks (not world cup weekend) of K-2 program games. All second graders should be evaluated in Group Evaluations in 2023 while we pilot this approach.
- Group Evaluations: Players will be grouped by age, organized into small-sided games and evaluated by professional coaches.
- Group evaluations will be conducted during the below dates and times. Players can attend both days and strongly suggest attending one than not attending any.
Wednesday, June 7th - Girls at Flatley
- 3:30 - Check-in rising 3rd & 4th graders
- 4:00-5:30 - Evaluation time for rising 3rd & 4th graders
- 5:00 - Check-in rising 5th - 8th graders
- 5:30-7:00 - Evaluation time for rising 5th - 8th graders
Thursday, June 8th - Boys at Flatley
- 3:30 - Check-in rising 3rd & 4th graders
- 4:00-5:30 - Evaluation time for rising 3rd & 4th graders
- 5:00 - Check-in rising 5th - 8th graders
- 5:30-7:00 - Evaluation time for rising 5th - 8th graders
Sunday, June 11th - Boys at Point 32 & Girls at Flatley
- 3:30 - Check-in rising 3rd & 4th graders
- 4:00-5:30 - Evaluation time for rising 3rd & 4th graders
- 5:00 - Check-in rising 5th - 8th graders
- 5:30-7:00 - Evaluation time for rising 5th - 8th graders
- All returning players will be pre-registered for tryouts. Any player not pre-registered may register on-site at check-in.
- Parents are expected to observe from afar and not interfere or participate in evaluations.
All evaluations are conducted using the same criteria:
- Technical: Passing, receiving, dribbling, and shooting skills
- Tactical: Understanding of the game, vision, movement away from the ball, passing to space, etc.
- Athletic: Speed, strength, size
- Attitudinal: Coachability, joy of the game, good teammate, sportsmanship
