Make-Up Travel Evaluation Session

Every player registered for Travel Soccer in AdminSports by the Fall deadline of July 1, 2022, will be guaranteed a spot on a travel team.

We know schedules are tough at the end of the year and some players (for various reasons) could not participate in EITHER of the two sessions held July 9 & 12. If you were not able to participate in either of them, you are invited to come to our Make-Up Evaluation Session

Saturday, July 9, 2022
4:00-6:00 pm
Milton Health Care/Flatley

Please use the following link to sign up for the Make-Up Evaluation Session:   https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4FAFAE2DA7FD0-travel

Please note:  DO NOT participate in the Make-Up evaluation if you have already participated in an evaluation either on June 9 or June 12, 2022.

Finally, if you cannot make any of the 3 evaluations, the placement committees will do the best that they can with the information they have (coach evaluations, previous external evaluations). All placements (top 1/3 of a team, bottom 1/3 of a team) offer great opportunities for players to develop. Over 6 years in travel, placements always seems to work out.

Milton Soccer Travel Wrap Up

Congratulations to all 52 teams in Milton Travel. Almost all the teams played all 10 games!  While we don’t like to stress the wins and losses, a couple accomplishments should be recognized:

Congratulations to the Milton Mavericks (coached by Heather Montgomery and Colin Black) who won the Presidents Cup!

Also congrats to Milton Spirit (coached by Keith Schettino) who made the Presidents Cup Final and Milton United (coached by Atilla Ceranoglu) who made it to the Semi-Finals of the BAYS playoff for MTOC.  The following all won their sections:

Girls

  • Spirit (Gr5-4E)
  • Select (Gr8-3L)

Boys

  • Gunners (Gr3-3F)
  • Mavericks (Gr6-3A2)
  • Olympians (Gr8-4J)
  • United (Gr8-2C)
  • Mess (Gr9-12-3A)

Hundred s of players participated in the external Evaluations. It was good to see so many at the Coach Appreciation Night at Widowmaker. We have made it through COVID and are more or less back to normal in terms of the soccer world. Remember-It is all about the kids.

Enjoy your summers. Remember to register your players by the July 3 deadline. See you in the Fall.

Milton kicked off its 1st session in the fall with 9 players and grew to 12 in the spring. Our success is due to our amazing players and dedicated volunteers. We look forward to returning in the fall on Sunday afternoons.

Parking Issues at Fields: Please Help

Parking is a BIG ISSUE at many of the Milton Soccer fields. Please adhere to the below rules for the last week, especially with evaluations coming up.

Flatley/MHC:  Please park in designated parking lots ONLY, which is the parking to the left as you enter from Neponset Valley Parkway or behind the building.  Any spots outside of that are off limits and potentially your car will be towed.  We are guests at that field, so if someone asks you to move, please be polite and do so.  Only do drop-offs in front of the building, NOT in front of the parking lot off Neponset Valley Parkway.  It backs up traffic into the road and makes it difficult for people leaving and arriving.

Houghton’s Pond:  We are guests at the park and need to abide by the same parking rules as anyone else who parks there.  In the past, they have towed cars that park in NO PARKING zones.  Please don't be one of those cars.

Fall 2022 Registration is Open

Registration is now open for our Fall 2022 Milton Soccer programs.  Please register with the "Register" button above or use the following link:  https://secure.adminsports.net/miltonmasoccer

About our Programs:

  • PRE-K: The Pre-K program is open to kids age 3 through 5.  The kids are engaged in fun themed sessions — Paw Patrol, PJ Masks, Super Monsters, etc — conducted by professional instructors from Hermes Lima Soccer Academy and will run on Saturdays and Sundays. Due to increased popularity of this program, registrants will no longer be able to select a day/time.  The kids learn some basic fundamentals , like dribbling, some passing and shooting, all in a fun environment and being a bit silly. There are no teams involved but rather a group of kids kicking, chasing and having fun with soccer balls.  There are no friend requests in the PreK league. During registration once we reach our player limit you will be placed on a waitlist.
  • K-2+ LEAGUE:  The K-2+ program is open to kids in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade and is offered in the fall and spring.   This program runs on Saturdays or Sundays for 60 minutes.  Each week features a skills session followed by a controlled game.  All training is supervised with professional instruction.  K-2+ is open to all Milton residents and students of all Milton Schools.  You must register on time to have any player and coach requests considered (one player and coach request limit per player).  All games are played in Milton.
  • TRAVEL LEAGUE: Grades 3-8, games on Saturdays (5 home and 5 away games), weekday practices in the fall and spring and play in the BAYS league.  Spring evaluations will be used to form two even competitive teams in grades 3 & 4; the other teams in these grades will be as balanced as possible.  In grades 5-8, teams will be leveled (placed based on external and coach evaluations).
  • TOPSoccer LEAGUE: US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer is an Outreach Soccer Program for athletes with intellectual, emotional and or physical disabilities.  The program strives to provide soccer opportunities for players to develop at their own pace in a safe, fun and supportive/inclusive environment.  TOPSoccer is played Sunday afternoons.

The deadline to register is July 1st.  On July 2nd waitlist and late fees apply.

Coaches Corner - 23 May

Game Day Tips

  • Players & Coaches arrive at the game about 30 minutes prior  Starting with a warm up for about 5 minutes, fast paced passing drill for 10 minutes and then a shooting drill for 10 minutes.  Then we check in and go over where everyone is playing.
  • Don't forget to reach out to the coach you are going to play during the week. Make sure they have my contact info and we both know where the field is.

Practice Tip

  • *Sorry lesson plans are not available, they will be sent later in the week.
  • During practice, ensure your players understand what the session focus is, and they get what to do. During games, NEVER coach the player on the ball (try this during practice as well), but rather the ones off the ball. Limit your coaching in general but provide feedback. Constant coaching can only derail a player and team. Have objectives for them to achieve pregame, check during half and adjust objectives for second half. If you provide them objectives, your coaching will be simpole and just have to concentrate on subbing and providing feedback to subs coming off and going in.

Goalie Clinic

  • Tuesdays, May 24 and May 31st from 6:00-6:45 at Flatley Field

Reminder: Coaching Evaluation

  • You should have received an email from Tom Petersen regarding Coaching Evaluations. Please complete your team's evaluation by June 1st on TeamGenius. Email Tom Peterson with any questions.

Updates to SafeSport

Due to changes in the US Center for SafeSport and US Soccer Federation policy, athletes 18 or over who may interact with Minor Athletes, have more responsibilities to Milton Soccer/Mass Youth Soccer, under state and federal law than they had as a minor.

What does this mean?

  • Athletes that are 18 or will turn 18 during a current playing season and play on a team with minor athletes are required to take the SafeSport Core Abuse Prevention training in order to participate.  Players who are currently 17 years old may get a head start on this requirement and take the training with parental consent prior to their 18th birthday.
  • To Follow US Soccer policy, these athletes must be crosschecked against the Commonwealth of Mass SORI database, the US Soccer, and SafeSport Disqualification list once they turn 18th.  Mass Youth Soccer will conduct this activity.

Please use this link to access the SafeSport Adult Athlete Prevention Training Help Guide.  Detailed instructions on how to complete the required SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training. Also included in the help guide is the US Soccer access code that is needed to take the training for free.

Every Kid Sports Pass

Mass Youth Soccer is excited to share with you the Every Kid Sports Pass which offers qualifying income-restricted families up to $150 per child towards their registration fees for youth sports activities up to four times a year.  In every town and program across the state, there are children who are unable to participate in sports programs for economic reasons.

To be eligible to receive a pre-paid visa to help cover registration fees, families need to provide Medicaid, SNAP, or WIC supporting documents containing the child’s name and show active effective dates (within 12 months).

Please note, the Every Kid Sports Pass is eligible only for Youth Recreational level programs (e.g. Town Travel / Intown / Recreational programs lasting longer than 4 week).  Clubs, travel, tournament, elite, personal training, camps, and programs that cost more than $500 do NOT qualify.

Mass Youth Soccer will be raising awareness of this incredible opportunity to our full membership and beyond in November as the majority of our member programs begin opening registration for the Spring soccer season and Winter programming. Please help us to raise awareness of the Every Kid Sports Pass program by using all available avenues to promote this opportunity to families in your community!

4v4 Coaching Course and TOPSoccer!

4v4 Coaching CourseIt was a beautiful day on Sunday May 1st for the 4v4 coaching course.  Twelve coaches attended, five from Milton. There were also nine very enthusiastic second grade boys who helped with the course!

This event took place all while two travel makeup games and a well attended and fun TopSoccer session were being played too.  Good times!

The 4v4 course was run by professional coaches from MA Youth Soccer and is part of US Soccer’s Grassroots License Pathway described here, and is is a perfect training opportunity for any new coaches and certainly all K-2+ (4v4) coaches, and any coaches who would like to brush up on their coaching skills.
