As we move into the final stretch of our Spring season, let’s take a moment to look back to a different season, and a different year, the Fall of 2025! Milton Soccer is pleased to announce the winners of the referee team of the 2025 Fall season and celebrate their efforts and achievements. The four referees that make up our team are Desmond Gordon, Teagan Sweeney, Aidan Smith, and Ivy Muzquiz. They were chosen by the Milton Soccer coaches and exemplify the best qualities that Milton Soccer referees try to bring to each game.
Milton Soccer is very fortunate to have a large community of talented, hard-working referees. Many of our referees in the Milton Soccer group deserve special recognition, so it was not easy to single out just four. But these four distinguished themselves in many ways:
Desmond Gordon turned out to be our referee leader for the Fall season, taking on some of our most challenging HS and eighth grade games as head referee. He was a model referee, setting a standard that our new referees could look to as they learned what skills would be most effective in handling highly competitive matches. While leading a referee team, he was calm and measured, very effectively ma naging player conflict and de-escalating tense moments on the field.
Teagan Sweeney brought energy and enthusiasm to every game. She radiated a positive attitude. The teams she managed were lucky to have her focus and attention. Teagan also benefited our younger referees by setting an example of professionalism with her clear signalling and earnestness to follow every play on the field.
Aidan Smith is one of our fast developing referees. His passion to learn and high soccer intelligence was apparent to all. He read the game well and quickly gained a proficiency over the Laws of the Game, sometimes attending to very nuanced aspects of the rules which impressed the coaches.
Ivy Muzquiz seemed to be everywhere in her first year. Taking on games two, three, or four in a row, sometimes at more than one field in single day. She was reliable and cool under pressure, for example making precision offsides calls in contentious & hard fought games.
Congratulations to all four! Milton Soccer is lucky to have them managing our games.
We look forward to seeing who will make the Spring 2026 ref team as we enter the Summer season.
