Champions League Update

clChampions League kicked off with great success last weekend as we had 173 out of 210 players show up for evaluations. CL3G had only two players missing!  Girls rock!

As most of you know, UK Elite were on hand to evaluate players and put teams together.  Teams are 98% done but we have a lot of cleanup with late registrations, no shows, and confused parents.   Last week was a busy week but worth the effort to see the kind of players we have in the league and put balanced, full teams together.

Keith from UK Elite and his team did an amazing job.  After this Sunday's session, we will put all teams together and notify coaches.  All coaches have been assigned and will contact families upon roster finalization.  Any questions can be answered on the field.  Show up Sunday and talk to Keith or Brian.

Special thanks to everyone who made it a great day at the park on Sunday!

Spring 2018 Referee Awards

RefereesIt is always difficult to single out just three referees for the season awards. Milton Soccer easily has twenty deserving refs who have the skills, abilities, and the knowledge of the game to excel in demanding games. We are lucky to have all of them in our program. But the three chosen have continuously distinguished themselves during our 2018 Spring season.

Referee: Scott Yuen

Scott has been a leader in Milton Soccer for many seasons. He has a solid grasp on the ability to call fouls appropriately for the many different levels of play. Grade 8 level coaches have requested him for challenging games, where the players would like a little more allowed contact than in the younger teams. This is a difficult skill to master. Scott has been mentoring as well, shielding the young trainees from the emotional bumps and bruises that can come in strongly contested games, allowing them a safe space to learn and grow.

Senior Assistant Referee: Cecile Madigan

All of the games’ i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed under Cecile’s watchful eye. Her game management is excellent, making sure that the rules of the game are observed by players and coaches. She’s athletic and covers the entire field without effort. Her confident poise puts everyone at ease and allows the game of soccer to be enjoyed. She is very rapidly moving to the top of our referee group.

Junior Assistant Referee: James O’Neill

James comes to each and every game with enthusiasm and a sense of fun. He also attends to his job with a high level of seriousness that spreads to his fellow refs. James has been very quick to learn the ins and outs of refereeing and was one of the quickest referees to reach the head 9v9 ref level. His alertness to game play and confidence with communication is highly valued in the Milton Soccer program.
