Placement Policies

Travel Teams (BAYS)

Milton Soccer holds travel player evaluations every spring for players that will be registering for Grade 3 through 8 age groups (Entering grades 3-8) in the Fall.  Grade 3 athrough Grade 4 may have limited numbers of teams.  As players move to 9v9 (Grades 5 & 6) and 11v11 (Grades 7 & 8), team composition naturally changes as players develop differently at different ages.  At Grade 6 and above, these are not "tryouts", in the sense that everyone who registers on time will be placed on an appropriate travel team.  BAYS has many levels and every team is placed at a level where players can both be challenged and succeed.

Player evaluations are conducted by professional, external coaches that are unbiased.  Attending both days of evaluations yields a better evaluation, but one day is OK if players cannot make both days.  Please bring a ball and water.  Players will play small-sided games and will be evaluated on technical, tactical, athletic, and personality (attitude) characteristics.  Evaluations are only held once per year and are used for placements for both Fall and Spring seasons.

Player and team placement is very much dependent on the number of players that register on time. Input is also sought from coaches who see the players every week.  This process is not perfect, but it has shown to work out over the long term.  If you have any questions, please direct them to Bob Chen [email protected], Girls Coordinator) or Atilla Ceranoglu ([email protected], Boys Coordinator.)
