Travel League Referees

Milton Soccer's Travel League (Milton Travel) competes in the Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) league. Referees interested in working for Milton Soccer need to be certified by the Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC).

Individuals, age 14 and up, can be certified as a grade 8 referee through courses offered by the MSRC. Information and a listing of courses can be found at massref.net. After the initial certificate course, the grade 8 needs to be maintained with an annual recertification course. As referees gain experience, they also have the option of moving to a higher referee grade (grade 7 would be the next step).

All aspiring and certified referees must set up a referee account on the BAYS website (bays.org). Once created, the referee then must apply to the town of Milton through their account. Aspiring and certified referees also need to email the Milton Referee Coordinator and communicate their interest in joining the Milton referee group.

Once accepted into the Milton referee group, the new referee will be provided a startup referee uniform and gear.

New referees will begin with assignments which will be overseen by a mentor and/or an experienced referee. New referees will also begin with work on the sidelines as assistant referees (AR’s), until they gather enough experience to move into the middle of the field.
